Denizens of the dark call forth,
A hollow laugh without an echo.
An endless sorrow without a tear?
Wheels within wheels,
Ripples in the deep,
Pain on pain,
Loud on louder,
So feeling is the only transcendence,
It's just as well you swallowed your tail!
Nb. A day or so after writing the above I heard a BBC programme about Dame Cicely Saunders, the founder of the Hospice Movement (go to: https://www.bmj.com/content/suppl/2005/07/18/331.7509.DC1), one of the sayings attributed to her is (acc. to the BBC), apparently (probably paraphr.); "Time is not a matter of length but of depth!"
